Living Outside – Romiska by Sandy L and Photography by Frank Schoenau (a First Thursday collaboration)

Romiska you are living with your sister on the streets, is that correct?
Well, it is not my sister it is my child. But I am not open that it is my child.

Sorry please explain that?
I am not open to everybody that it is my child, my mom seems to tell everybody that it is her child.

Why?
I am not sure, really.

How old are you?
16.

Were you dating the father?
No, it was a one night stand.

Where is your mom staying?
We are staying outside.

What are some of the challenges you face?
It is very difficult. I was at school, I dropped out a month ago. Going to school and then coming back outside is very difficult. Now that we going into June exams I find it difficult to study. The father is not supporting so I have to support the child, my mom goes to look for work – she has qualifications in administration but it is hard for her to get a job. I am currently thinking of going back to school next year.
